The R Mended Metals Story

Roy and Rebecca Taylor are the owners and artists of R Mended Metals. Before devoting their lives to their unique and beautiful aquatic sculptures, Roy earned a BS in marine biology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and then spent 20 years working in the scuba industry. After selling his scuba shop, he taught himself how to weld while fabricating a sand rail dune buggy, eventually moving on to art and interior design. Today, Roy and Rebecca own and operate R. Mended Metals as a family business, producing the finest quality products with unsurpassed attention to detail. In addition to their unique sculptures, they also design furniture and home accessories, such as lighting, wall art, custom gates and railings, bar stools, and tables.

Before devoting his life to creating unique and beautiful aquatic sculptures, Roy earned a BS in marine biology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and then spent 20 years working in the scuba industry. He made his first pieces—a sea turtle followed by a seahorse—for a friend who owned a metal shop, and quickly realized that art and sculpture were his true passions. From there, owning and operating R. Mended Metals with his wife, Rebecca, was a natural progression. Roy sold his half of the scuba shop and the rest was history.

Fun fact: Roy taught himself how to weld while fabricating a sand rail dune buggy, eventually moving on to art and interior design.

Rebecca Taylor

Rebecca graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Physical Therapy. After 25 years in that field she was ready for a change, and decided to pursue a new business with Roy, her husband. The result was R. Mended Metals. Rebecca loves working at the studio, running the business, working with the public, and the opportunity to be creative. She’s continually inspired by the coastal environment of southeastern North Carolina, and she enjoys taking the road less traveled, preferably by boat, beach, or paddleboard.

Fun fact: The family dog, Buttercup, loves to SUP almost as much as Rebecca does, and they can often be found out on the water together.
